Hi All,

Here's another flash question.

I have an EOS 300 and a 380EX Speedlite, not the
best combination for flash photography but its
what I have and I have to make the most of it. So
when using this combo I usually get shots of
people that look like rabbits under a spotlight
and I don't like it. Even with a light softener
(diffuser?) in front of the flash, the light is
too harsh.

I read in NK Guy's Flash Photography with EOS
guide (http://photonotes.org/articles/eos-flash/
) that you can fake FEC with this combo by
putting the camera on M, measuring and adjusting
the exposure, then change the ISO (double it to
get -2 FEC) and shoot.

This sounds fine if I'm doing 1 shot or if I have
time between shots but lets say I'm shooting
candids at a party and I want -2 FEC constantly,
the whole process will take too much time so I
wonder if either (or both) of the following ways
will work:

1. In M, double the ISO setting (ISO 100 set to
400) and for each shot adjust exposure at +2.
This way the flash is going to fire for ISO 400
whilst the ambient exposure is going to be for
ISO 100, the proper one. I can't see a difference
between this and the previous method besides I'm
altering the order of the steps.

2. In P, double the ISO setting and set EC to +2.
Again, I can't tell the difference with the
previous method. I both I'm doubling the ISO and
setting EC to +2.

I understand there's a difference on how the
flash works between P and M. Does that comes into
account here?

Can somebody please throw a light here? with or
without compensation :-)

Thanks a lot,

Carlos
