I'd say get a 50/1.8 and an 85/1.8. You should notice an improvement straight away. What's usually the biggest obstacle for enlarging a photograph isn't film or grain, but having a photograph worth enlarging in the first place. In other words, one that has everyone in focus and that is not underexposed.
