Very nice photos, Daniel! I'm inspired again (and trust me,
I need the inspiration often).

I've always thought that, given my budget, I'd go for one
of he EOS Macro lenses in that "portrait" length, so that
I can kill two birds with one stone. I am making the
assumption that, for those portraits that need more
"softness", a softening filter could be used (on
lens or in "post-processing").

I've become a big fan of the 50mm length however, and
I'd have to pick this as my favourite. Although not taken
with an EOS (actually Olympus OM1 with 50/1.4), I find
it's a great all-purpose for family gatherings:

(please excuse the quality - I'm no pro - but I think
the above are okay for showing that a fixed focal length
is a practical lens in such situations)

I prefer it in these circumstances over the zoom as the
restriction is, paradoxically, liberating (like having the
b&w film in there). It narrows my choices, but perhaps it
also narrows and concentrates my focus (no pun intended).
It works for me anyway. YMMV.

I have the EOS 50/1.8 II, but I know someone on this
list often uses it with an EOS 300. Like my OM1 with
50/1.4, this would be a great *little* package for being
inconspicuous while making family-candids (with the
added advantage of autofocus for chasing down rugrats <g>).

...and, as has been said about the 50/1.8 a couple of
times before...TALK ABOUT CHEAP? IT'S *THE* EOS BARGAIN!
(don't hammers nails into floors with it though <g>)

Cheers
Marc
