I can't answer the question for sure, but I feel
pretty sure that there is some physical change that
prevents the S lens from mounting to other bodies. 
Why?  Because using the S lens in, for example, a 10D
would allow the mirror to contact the back of the
lens, with potentially very expensive consequences.  I
don't think Canon wants to face the PR and liability
issues that would result from that.

The mirror in the 300D is mounted on an articulated
hinge, which moves the mirror *back* in addition to
pivoting it, allowing it to clear the lens.  No other
current body has that feature.
