The 300 and 500 certainly don't have a backlit LCD, I think the 30 / 50 are
the first models that do.

I'm sure those who have only got a 35-80 lens aren't interested but I don't
think they really need an SLR anyway - for the people like me who have
bought a 300 because they'd rather spend the money on glass than bodies, the
300D looks quite appealing. (The biggest lens I've ever used on my 300 is
the EF 300 2.8 IS, unfortunately I only got to borrow it for 10 minutes)
