That would be entirely possible (and wouldn't it be sweet if it was the
case), but probably not.

With Canon lenses (or other equipment such as camera, printer etc.), I've
observed that if the unit is too old or Canon has no parts to repair, or if
the repair cost is just too high, Canon (Canada) would  offer the consumer
an opportunity to purchase another similar (within reason) current unit at
the dealer cost, i.e. maybe an �lan 7 instead of a Rebel but definitely not
a !Ds, pretty nice gesture and hangs on to another customer who may
otherwise venture to another brand name.
