Deeper or more narrow (at the same length) is equal in this context; 
it's the angle of view that is important, and with a less than full-
frame size chip you simply use a smaller angle of view....you don't 
use the full front element anymore....just as you don't with a 
teleconverter btw (that's also why using a TC on one of the TS-E 
tilt/shift lenses hardly causes any degradation, not even with the 
24mm....it's the edges that are the hardest to control in lens 
design, and those are ignored with a TC....:))
