Hi Pierre,

I know it doesn't vignette because a few months ago I bought an EW-83DII hood to use 
with 16-35L and 17-40L lenses.  I also have a 10D.    No vignetting!  :-)

As to the difference it makes, now that's a harder question, but the more shade a hood 
provides (without vignetting) the better.  I didn't try any side by side tests, I just 
started using it....  

Also, it's a lot more compact and easily stored than the dinner plate hoods that come 
with the lenses.
