Hans,
Getting the correct colors depends on proper calibration of the input device
(your scanner), the viewing and editing device (your computer monitor), and
your printer. I use Monaco Optix to calibrate my monitor, and I do this
frequently as the light settings in the room change with the time of day.
This is very important for your editing work. For my scanner I used Monaco
EZ color to create a profile for it with all scanner software corrections
and profiles off. For my printer, I've used Monaco EZ color to create a
profile for each type paper I use. I use a workflow for Photoshop that can
be downloaded from here:

http://www.monacosys.com/workflows.html

With this workflow, all profile management is done from within Photoshop. I
get very good results. Also, of note, I recently traded in my old Canon
676U scanner for an Epson 3170 because I could not turn off the Canon
scanner's automatic profile/corrections when I scanned.

Best of luck, JD
