Canon *doesn't* copyright them, at least not specifically in the
manual itself.

Such a large company would have put a copyright notice in front of
each and every manual if they had any concern about that.
Just like they put a warning in each and ever manual that you
shouldn't use off-brand lenses/flashes/etc....they *do* know how to
protect themselves, formally....;))
