Hmm....you make it sound as if neither Canon nor other brands use the high-end/optical stabilisers in their videocamera's....they *do*.
Both non-exchangeable-lens models, exchangeable-lens models, and of course including EOS-IS lenses on the high-end Canon videocamera's by means of an (sadly teleconverting-) adapter.
I know. Are there any such models that use *in camera* (not in lens!) IS? Is the A1 you mention below such a beast?
OTOH, the earlier mentioned argument of dedicated lenses still applies to this Minolta A1 digicam too....it's zoom, but non-
exchangeable....so the range of parameters is under control (which indeed might have become a problem when you can mount just any lens; although it also should only be related to focal length (and that type of data is already part of the lens/camera communication (see EXIF-data on EOS digi's)).
Then again, AFAIK, EOS lenses don't transmit focal length (virtually) stepless and some don't transmit it at all. Ok, still an advantage at least with those non IS lenses who do. Another question: Do EOS lenses report their TRUE focal length or the focal length they would have at infinity focus?
Btw, the argument of it being hard to move the (analog?) filmplane: that's what Contax did in their AX years ago, for AF....;))
Yes, but not nearly at the speed you would need to compensate for camera shake. It was (is) a quite slow mechanism. Of course it should be possible to use the same or a similar mechanism as in the IS lenses.
Btw2: IS-in-lens means moving a lens-element by changing angles, IS-
in-camera means linear movement of the sensor (X/Y-axis; in contrast to Z-axis with the Contax AX....;))
Heck, why not combine all 3 axis....:))))
Hey, why not all 3 axis plus changing angles? Would make a nice TSE camera, movements like in a large format camera. ;)))
