Thanks for the replies guys... it's good to have that confirmed. Canon advertise the 2x Mk II as providing IS with all current camera bodies - what they don't say is that even with the Mk II some older bodies don't support IS with *certain* lenses.... From what I've been able to find out, the EOS 650, 620, 630, RT, 700, 750, 850, 1, 5/A2e, 10/10s, 100/Elan or 1000/1000n/Rebel don't support IS with the 2x and the 300mm f/4L IS, 500mm f/4L IS, 600mm f/4L IS or 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS lenses. That's the case regardless of whether it's a Mk I or a Mk II extender.
The EOS 5/A2e was still a current model until around 2 years ago, so the advertising couldn't say that IS worked on all current models as the 5/A2e had that incompatibility. However when the Mk II was released, the 5/A2e had been discontinued, so the IS statement re current bodies was true. Also true for the old model, but never let a little detail like that get in the way of advertising copy :-) Cheers Gary > Can anyone confirm for me whether the first version of the > Canon EF 2x extender maintains the use of IS?
