Focusing speed is a joint effort of the camera body and the lens,
right ? People regularly comment on the AF speed of a lens. So what's
more important a fast AF body or lens ?

The camera has to communicate with the lens, so the camera's software reaction time is an issue, but Canon put the focus motor in the lens and Nikon, until recently, put it in the body, so I am not sure what percentage of the <joint effort> should be ascribed to each, but I must presume it varies from system to system.
