EOS scanner upgrade - 2700

Out of curiosity - has anyone here upgraded from a 2700 dpi class scanner 
to something with greater dpi/DMax?   What kind of step up did you 
make?   I've been using a Canon FS2710 (DMax 3.2) for a few years now, and 
although I don't pretend to have mastered it,  I have in some ways hit the 
ceiling and am aware of its limitation, both in resolution and dynamic 
range.  I want to upgrade, but am concerned that anything significantly 
better will be out of my price range.  Any feedback welcome.
