Henry, you touched on a subject that I am extremely familiar with (alarm company logo). My opinion of alarm stickers on your house is that you have forewarned the would be burglar that there is an alarm system in the house and if he is determined to enter anyway he is now expecting the alarm to go off and the Element of Surprise is no longer there.
Actually what I;m counting on is that the possibility of extra time and inconvenience getting in will persuade him to visit someone else altogether. Either way, there's nothing to steal and our attack cats would decimate him about the ankles. :-)
