EOS Repair site recommendations?

I've got an EOS 620 that's got the battery drain problem.  As I 
understand it, this is caused by the LCD backlight getting old and 
"shorting" out.  Otherwise the camera works fine.

I want to have it repaired, but I don't want a new backlight installed 
as it will just go bad sometime in the future.

Is there any shop that you know of that is good with these old Canon's 
that can just disconnect or bypass the backlight for me?  A reasonable 
price would be good too.
