I believe the camera is reverse-engineered. After all, if Sigma can make 
Canon-compatible lenses and flashes, they can probably use the same information to 
create a lens mount and flash interface. 

Now, with all the reports about compatibility problem between certain Sigma lenses and 
new Canon 
bodies, it would be ironic if some Sigma lenses require rechipping to work with the 
SLR/c.
