Hi all:

I've used several brands of filters. I think the lower version of B+W is
single coated instead of uncoated. It's pretty good and the coating is
pretty tough. Hoya HMC and HMC super are good but is difficult to clean (I
have read a few reports on this and the HMC super filter). Helopan is
pretty good too and the ring is brass and thin. If you have the $$, I would
go for Nikon. Really good filter.

Difference? I can definitely see the difference when I took off my junky
sunpak filter and put on the Hoya HMC. The color was A LOT better. This is
when I was using the 28-105 time. Hoya HMC and B+W, I really can't see the
difference. I mainly use B+W on my lens 'cos the tougher coating.

Image degradation? well, any extra will typically degrade the image. But
honestly, 1 to 2% degradation really can't be spotted... at least not by
me. :) better to scratch the filter then the expensive lens. Funny I even
put a Hoya HMC on my trusty 50mm f1.8 II... :P

just my 2 cents,

Gary
