On the Fred Miranda site is someone who bought a MKII for 4000$ and
another for 4200$. You've to search better for US prices.

The US Dollar lost value against the Euro.
Initially, 1 USD bought appros EUR 1.3, now
the roles are nearly completely reversed.

This explains nothing; in fact, it does the reverse. Applying this in
a logical fashion, European prices should now be higher.
Also, I don't think the US$ ever was worth EUR 1.3.
As the world markets get more international, the prices have to
equalize. Manufacturers and distributors realize this and act
accordingly. 25 years ago some items were 1/3 the price in New York or
Hong Kong that they were here in Canada; now the difference is usually
less than 10%, and virtually never more than 20%.
