Peter, You were indeed lucky. As good as even Canon's best lenses there are going to be occasional lenses that have things that go wrong with them. But the percentages are very low. The problem is that for Sigma these bad lenses happen regularly and are to be expected. I'm pretty sure that if we took a survey comparing Canon lenses with Sigma lenses that Canon would be comfortably in front. If we then took the same data and used only the shooters that shoot heavily, say 3 or more times a week the survey would VERY strongly favor Canon lenses.
