Hi WMJ, I use a 1D, 1DS and 1V and the AF feels the same to me on all of them. I only have one lens that is not f/2.8 or faster and can detect no real differences in AF performance between the three using these faster lenses. I shot with an EOS 1DII and the AF was noticeably quicker than my 1D which I brought along to compare with the 1DII side by side for sports use. I have not had any issues with the 1D's AF performance when used for motor sports, yacht racing and most recently a fencing tourney. I would imagine that if I used an EOS 1DII for a shot period all of my other 1V based bodies might feel sluggish by comparison. That being said the AF performance of the EOS 1DII vs. the 1D is not by itself a reason to move up to the 1DII though there are other improved features that made me look closely at a 1DII.
