There's a huge price gap between the EOS-20D and the EOS-1D MarkII. I'm sure
they can create something that fits in there.

I think one of the posters who said that the market is either people who would bu y the 20D for $1500 or who would pay $4500 for the 1DmkII. Not many $3000 buyers out there. I'd be divided too if presented with that choice.

What I do not like about the EOS-20D: - Why a different grip from the 10D and D60???

Because the 20D is smaller and because the new grip is an improvement with an on/off switch and additional buttons.

Why different batteries? The
BP-511 worked just fine, I never ran out of batteries on my D60!

The BP-511A is backward and forward compatible. It's just higher capacity, most probably because all of us have been buying high-capacity BP-511s from HongKong for $10 each. :-)

- No interchangeable focusing screens

This requires considerable engineering, especially given that the pentaprism/mirror box is smaller. They'd have to come out with a whole new series of focusing screens. All to satisfy the rough 1000 people who might buy the replacement screen.

Karen

If the viewfinder were decent, I would be first in line to buy my preferred screens, but with the present type of finders put in these cameras, viewing one screen through a dark, narrow tunnel is no more satisfying than viewing another screen through the same conditions.

If the ? 3D had most of the features of the 20D, but a really good viewfinder with interchangeable screens useable for manual focussing, autofocus at f/8 or smaller and good weather sealing I would pay $2500.
