Depending on what media was used. If he used a CD-RW(rewritable) then both
sessions should be visible. But if he used a CD-R(writable)and recorded a
second session, the first session will not be visible under Windows
Explorer. Most software will prompt you with this warning when you click to
record the second session. 

You could use third party software to view all sessions on the CD. The
software is called CD&DVD Analyse.
