Looking back at my posts on this thread, I don't want Pattie to think
that I'm saying this can't or shouldn't be done. If I were going into
such a situation myself (I don't claim to know exactly where she will be
or what she'll be doing), I'd sure want to bring along the best
camera(s) I could. I'd be tempted to do exactly what she's planning to
do, but I'd still be cautiously working out what I need to do to best
protect the equipment I was bringing along. A good game plan for
housing the equipment, when and where lens changes and cleanings will
take place, personally strict guidelines to help ensure that everything
is kept in top shape. Especially when you look at this as a year-long
tour and not a couple of week's worth of travel. Most of us probably
aren't faced often with what Pattie is asking, and I know I've never
been in such a situation. But I can't picture myself going into
something like this and not wanting to take my gear along. It's too
much a part of what I do to leave it behind, and I'm guessing it's just
the same for her.

I hope you get it all worked out. Most of all, take care of yourself so
that when you get back you can show off some of those images you
capture. I bet we'd all be looking forward to that!
