Who knows where Canon prints their materials. If they are printed in Japan, they'd have to be shipped to Germany. Printed matter is HEAVY and therefore expensive to ship fast. Printing in Europe is more expensive than printing in Asia.
I'd like to think they just don't want to kill tress for a product, which in all reality will probably have a life span in the first-hand marketplace measured in months. After that, it's just so much landfill. Why not put the money into developing the next generation instead?
I *prefer* electronic documentation these days, it sure is easier to search than paper, and a helluva lot more compact to keep around. I'm waiting for the day we have radio-linked self updating news displays (like the "homeostatic newspapers" in Philip K Dick sci fi novels... did you see "Minority Report"?)
