I was using my 20D and 100-300/4.5-5.6USM shooting at a high school marching band festival this past Saturday using an aftermarket 1800mAh (cell from China, made in Japan).
I was able to take *** 3086 *** shots before I noticed the low battery indicator go from full to the 1/2 LED indication. So I went ahead and swapped to my real Canon BP-511A. I was using One Shot AF, and multiple frame advance, low/standard jpg, 2 Lexar 512MB 40x CF cards, as well as Firmware 1.0.5. Temperatures were 75-85F. I had to switch CF cards 2 times. I was expecting to get around 1000-1500 shots per battery. So this is a nice thing. Having the extra capacity, non-microdrive, and nice temps definitely makes this an optimal situation. AF wasn't hunting much, and the frames were going by so fast... 100 per minute at times, that AF wasn't being used much. In one week, I'll do the same thing, only use the Canon 1500mAh battery to see how it fares. I did take a few shots at Voodoo fest after that.
