I guess my question would be... why? For the $150 Horizon Electronics charges for the firmware change/command dial fix, you can just about get an EOS5 on the used market. I suppose you could feel really good about the bulletproof command dial and CLA (that's part of the procedure) afterward.


Also,  have any list members compared the A2/EOS5 to the newer ELan 7E? If
so, how do the AF speeds compare on the two models?

There IS no comparison. The A2 is kinda like a first gen EOS1 (poky). The Elan 7 is more like an EOS3. (eg very VERY fast).


The caveat is that you must have the most current version of firmware in your 3rd party lenses, or they will just lock up the camera. If you have lots of Sigmas, Tamrons or Tokinas, or plan on buying them, the EOS5/A2 are probably a better choice. There are Sigmas and Tokinas that will not work on the A2, though.
