I'm getting ready to buy a 300mm f/2.8 IS lens. Living in the UK, prices are hugely inflated compared to the US (we normally pay in pounds what you guys pay in dollars so that's about 1.5x the price at the moment!). I can pick up this lens for �3300 in the UK or ship it from B&H for about �2700 including VAT and delivery!!
So we're talking about a �600 saving. I havent had to use Canon repairs, but i would thought that that �600 would cover about 2 service visits to Canon. That's how i would see it. Even if it does break down and you have to have it fixed, you'd still be better off.
Or that �600 would cover a short trip to B&H :)
