I meter my studio strobes off the histogram (but someday I'll be able to
afford a flash meter).  I think the term is 'shooting right", meaning try
to get as many pixels on the right side of the histogram without
actually having any maxed out.  A lot of digital cameras used to have
really bad ISO settings, meaning that they were 50% or more off, which
might be origin of the that adjustment.
