I feel the same way.  I'm not fully comfortable with
any repair service on any product, but I would trust
Canon more than other manufacturers in other
industries.

As for me, I got to shoot with my 20D last night for
the first time, and somehow managed to produce the
"Err" message?!?!?!?  This was with a 50 1.4 USM lens
mounted and I was simply scrolling through the Menu
settings.  I was finally able to restore functionally
after power-cycling a couple times and then eventually
removing and reinserting the batteries.  I may have
been not so surprised if I were using one of my third
party lenses but this happened with a a Canon lens! 
I'll have to monitor this closely...
