Wow, he's not asking for much, is he? -- My film cameras should last me a lifetime, but the 12-18 month shelf-life of current DSLRs is still a little frightening. Still, we are not forced to upgrade :-) -- It's not a "shelf-life" but more a product cycle. And, no we aren't forced to upgrade. I'm using InDesign 2, Illustrator 9, and PhotoShop 6; all of them are now outdated by 1 or 2 versions but they are sufficiently productive so there's no NEED to upgrade. And considering my 4MP Canon 1D is still more than enough camera for double page spreads there really wouldn't be a NEED to upgrade. Of course, that didn't stop my WANT so I have a 1D.2 now and my 1D is backup. -- Willem-Jan's Chinese made Canon clone with your upgradeable sensor would certainly be affordable, and practical. -- The problem is that there's more to the system than a sensor. I don't think anyone would expect an older 1D to be able to move a 1Ds.2's 16MP images as fast as it does it's own native 4MP. If they ever became upgradeable I suspect it would be more like a full camera back that would be replaceable. Something that held the entire system. But, then again, with the entire system upgradeable, what would be the point?
