I use this lens without a hood but have the MR14 ring flash so have not noticed much flare. At 5X chasing bugs, I sometimes have difficulty getting the flash/lens combo close enough so I would imagine a hood might not help me here... Sounds interesting though - if you decide to get one, keep is posted!
