John,

I once asked my CPS technician about why my, theoretically parfocal, 70-200
shifts focus from one end to the other.

He told me that to rectify this meant trying mounts of various thickness
until the "correct" one was found.

Apparently, this has no bearing on optical performance, though I have my
doubts.

Sounds like you want to change it for cosmetic reasons?

You know you don't see it when it's on a camera? ;)
