One problem with digital P&S (at least in my Powershot
S50): Noise at ISO 200 - 400 is sometimes
unacceptable. Freeware noise removal does a great job,
but I like to stick to ISO 50 whenever possible in
order to get much cleaner results. If in doubt - try
shooting at night some bright sources where flash is
useless (e.g. fireworks etc.) on a tripod and compare
results at ISO 50 vs. 400
