Hi All,

So this would be like adding an EOS 3 type body on the DSLR side? This
doesn't make sense to me because Canon has never had model granularity this
fine and the pro models have always been easy to distinguish in terms of
build and performance. Canon has always had an EOS 3 style of entry level
pro body if you look at the film line. On paper these bodies are near EOS 1
series in capability but always seem to have added many additional features
that appeal to the advanced amateur but are often not particularly useful to
a working pro. If you think about it the EOS 20D fills this spot very
nicely in Canon's DSLR line up. The 20D is like a poor man's EOS 1D mkII
with much of the speed and build quality of the EOS 1D mkII but at half the
price. I count the battery grip as part of the cost of an EOS 20D because
you really do need it for a lot of jobs and the lack of vertical controls is
a severe handicap IMO.

For myself I would LOVE to see an EOS 1 class body with the larger 1.3x or
FF sensor but without the huge battery compartment yet retaining the option
of adding a high capacity battery and full function vertical grip. I use
both the EOS 1D and EOS 1DS bodies for my photography work and they are
great bodies for their respective usage. I'd also really like to have a
small body EOS 1DC(ompact), for shooting on the street. Something sized
like an EOS 1D mkII sans the large battery with EOS 1 series case, menu,
guts and feature set say 8MP or so with 5FPS and a 20 RAW shot buffer with a
single CF card slot. Take out all the situational type exposure and capture
modes to eliminate control and menu clutter. No popup flash I'd rather have
the durability and sealing than the (near), useless flash (okay so a popup
can be useful as the trigger for slaves on studio or battery type power
packs but that's what I have a Pocket Wizard for). That thing on the top is
for a dedicated shoe flash or Pocket Wizard, use it or crank up the ISO and
do your post capture processing with Noise Ninja. Your images will look
better without the flash on camera lighting anyway.

I guess it could happen but I doubt.

Cheers/Chip
