I still use a Canon 28-80 (mark 2, I think) that came with my EOS 100 13 years ago and wondered how it might compare with new independent designs. I compared it with a friend's Sigma 28-135 and the edge quality of the Sigma, at f8-11, both 28 and 80, wasn't even close. Centre pretty similar between the two at f8, Sigma worse wide open. I also compared it with a Sigma 12-24 and that, too, was clearly worse. Definitely still life in the old dog. Then, I compared it with the L series standard zoom a few years ago and couldn't see much difference, so maybe I got a good one.
