As others have already pointed out, the close-up lens will be better
suited for a zoom lens. On the other hand if you do have primes, too,
an extension tube set will give you more flexibility. Forget the Canon
EF25 II, buy the Kenko set with 12, 20 and 36mm instead. It costs
almost the same and as there are no optics the usual argument about
the superiority of Canon glass is void but you'll get an increased
flexibility.

I use my extension set (usually the 12mm tube) regularly on the same
lens as you for taking photos of my rats. It works pretty well
although it is prone to focus-hunting in low light conditions. For the
occasional flower close-ups I use the 50mm prime with the different
tubes or combinations of them to get even more magnification.
