What about the quality setting?
Does it depend on what you shoot or do you leave the setting basically
the same all the time?

Dieter,

I shoot RAW + Small JPEG.

One of the reasons is that the 1Ds MkII (and the 10D IIRC) uses the jpeg for display. Without the jpeg, RAW only, it uses the embedded thumbnail.

So if you zoom in on the review screen without the jpeg the image is very soft. On the 1DS MKII I have the sharpening set at max. This is usually too high and I back it off in conversion, but I can obtain a reasonable check on focus by zooming in on the review screen this way. It's impossible with RAW only.

The 20D may not work this way but I suspect it does.
