Perhaps I would just use an insulation tape or something like that to
protect the sockets once not in use...

Hi Alex,

I understand your concern, but the pins do not bend unless you actually
stick something other than the remote cord in that socket. They are
recessed enough not to worry. So just enjoy taking some photographs and
save your money for the cap. If you are shooting in extremely dusty
areas, you will need to worry more about other parts of the camera and
not the socket. :-)
