For myself it's for convenience: Most of my photos end up on my website
as the embedded JPEG, I'm usually happy with the camera's built in
colour balance, sharpening etc. 

Sometimes however an otherwise good photo needs tinkering with or I need
the best quality possible, in which case I'll process the RAW file.

Also, from memory the RAW section of the file is ~8MB and a small, low
quality jpeg is ~300KB, so no real increase in file size.
