Haven't seen this issue being brought up in the past on the Canon DSLR
(such
as the 1D Mk II I have had for the past year), so here it goes:
I would love to have one more digit on the in-camera file numbering, right
now it needs to be resetted at 9,999, since the camera shutter is rated to
200,000+ cycles and it's so easy to shoot large amount of images on an
DSLR,
I have already rolled the sequences 3 times in a little over one year of
ownership.
Since I use the file numbering off the camera for my filing, a five digit
file numbering system up to 99,999 would allow distinct numbering of
images
for much longer time than it is right now, at my pace it would be every 3
years rather than 3 times a year with the current 4 digit numbering, which
has occasionally started to cause duplicate file names (but of different
content) problems.
I don't really care for folders as I don't typically have any use for
them,
a 5 digit counter is much more useful for me.
Any comments?
Regards,
Ken
Ken,
It would be great if the camera makers gave the user real flexibility in
file naming.
They don't.
So, have you considered using Downloader Pro from BreezeSystems? (PC only)
http://www.breezesys.com/Downloader/index.htm
This can be set up to re-name your files in many different ways DURING the
download. Other features are available, e.g adding IPTC data.
I find it immensely useful, a huge time saver and in operation it is
"invisible".
