Good lord, that is terrible! Does this happen only on wides or only
with fast lenses? ie, what results do you get with a 17-40/f4 (at 17
and wide open) or with a long fast (200/2.8, 300/2.8 ??)

I don't suppose you have a 1Ds (or its younger brother) to compare to?
