Canon Canada was able to tell me my EOS-3 had 14,000 shutter actuations when I brought it in for check-up last year, it's only possible with their specialized test equipment interfaced through the hot-shoe, which is also how they upgrade the firmware on these film bodies. Best thing is to ask a Canon service center if they have the same ability with either all or a particular DSLR body.
