1. I'd like to power them better (faster recylcing) - is
quantum the way

to go ?

Two ways to do this. The fastest recycling is with a Turbo battery. But
it is pricey.
The alternative is NiMH AA batteries. The latest are 2700 mah. I used
them for a wedding a few weeks back and they really held up well, except
they still require about 2-3 secs to recycle compare to the Turbo which
is 1-2 secs.

Peter, one alternative I've found, and mentioned to Michael, is the Sunpak TR-2000 battery pack. It uses the same power cable as the Quantum Turbo, costs much less ($249 at B&H) and you can get a replacement "cluster" for $68 that switches out when the first one goes flat, if it does. To get a Turbo and a back up, you have to buy two batteries, at $389 ea, that runs some bucks. I've shot for 6hrs with one Sunpak attached to my 580EX without having to change batteries, and the recycle time stayed at 1-2 sec the entire time. I've had problems with a Turbo 2x2 slowing down towards the end of its charge. A bonus is that it weighs less than a Turbo, its downside is that it takes about twice as long to charge. I have used 2500 mhr batteries, but they run out before too long, or at least the recycle time becomes, to me, intolerable. I'm not the most patient guy, when it comes to waiting for my flash! <G>
