> Do you shoot RAW or jpeg, and why?

I'm with you Cotty.

Of the 30,000+ frames (or is that 40,000+ ?) I've shot over the past 1.5
years with the 1D Mk 2, I've shot maybe 100 RAW images only because of
difficult lighting condition that I know I need to do some stiff post
prcessing afterwards.

Otherwise for car racing, airshows, horse jumping etc that I normally
shoot, it would just be way too much to convert and then back-up these
files, on average I find the RAW file would be around 6 MB each where the
large .jpg file using default factory setting usually borders around 2 MB
each at ISO 200 setting, so I'm saving around 60% of storage space by using
.jpg format, I can't even begin to imagine what if would be like to back
converted .tiff files at 40+ MB per file!

I'm sure there are tiny little differences down at the pixel level, but I'm
quite happy with the results I get from large .jpg files, and I've even
sold 20x30 prints made from .jpg files without any complaints, so I'll stay
with the .jpg for the time being.

Oh, I shot some fast action stuff this summer with RAW+L.jpg, and was
extremely annoyed that the camera locked up both times after saving 10 of
the 12 or 13 frames I shot in a burst, the orange write light stayed on
(ie. not blinking) for a minute afterwards with no response from the on/off
switch, I had to pop the battery to hard reset the camera each time......
