Hi Keith, I guess I am a lousy FAQ maintainer, and sometime List historian. The search page is still somewhere on the Internet, if you know where to look: http://tinyurl.com/bkajh An archive was important before the days of WWW, because good information was so hard to find online. Nowadays, things change so quickly that the answers are often out-of-date within a few months. Witness the progress from CCD to CMOS sensors, partial to full-frame, APS and EF-S mounts, A-TTL, E-TTL and E-TTL II, and the five generations of Image Stabilizers. The only official archive was the Pipermail archive in Janne Sinkkonen's day, covering 1994 to 2000. I had burned the first 82639 e-mails in mailbox format to CD during a server move in November 2000. This is NOT available online. Neither the ListQuest, nor the Yahoo!Groups archive nor the mail-archive.com archive were ever officially sanctioned by WJM. ListQuest had a complete archive, but died a typical dot-com death. (But not before I managed to download their archive to CD) Mail-archive.com began archiving in year 2000, shortly after the server change. Yahoo!Groups grew out of findmail, which turned into eGroups before being bought out by Yahoo! Their predatory practices made it impossible to maintain a mail feed beyond 2003. However, their archive is still searchable and is intact back to 1996.
