Does anyone know why Canon has dropped the depth mode from their digital
SLRs? One of the annoyances of my 10D is that it is hobbled with the
useless auto-depth mode, rather than the full manual depth system of my
old 100, which was one of the reasons I originally bought into the Canon
system. I just looked to see what they've put on the 5D, and the answer
is nothing at all. Is the theory that you don't need it because you can
check the image after you've taken it? Seems a retrograde step if so,
since you need to know not only what aperture to select but where in the
scene to focus, could take a lot of trial and error... I wonder whether
they could firmware update the 10D to give it full manual depth mode?
