I've never had a macro lens. But I got a 25mm extension tube and have some fun
with that on both my 100-400 and my 28-135.

Good for bugs at 400mm with quite a long working distance.

With the 28-135 it only focuses when zoomed out, but I can really make small
things fill the finder.

Cheap and effective, I keep the tube in my bag at all times.
