I must say that since I've been shooting digitally I've not used filters
much at all if any (still stand by the 81A). I think the lens hood idea is
good but as they say Sh-t happens. I've kicked me arsh hard several times
for the fine scratch that appeared out of no where on the face of a Leica
180 3.8 apo. How did that happen??? Hood always was on that lens in use and
a cover when not. Has happened with the 70-200 L I shoot with daily as well.
After the Leica incident- B/W and Leica filters went on every Leica lens.
Cheers Wilber
Flare or image degradation was never a problem.

Any filter recommendations/feedback for a 70-200L IS? I wanted to get
something for everyday use i.e. protection. I was considering the Canon
77mm
UV (Ultra Violet) Glass Filter (L-39 Sharp Cut).
I know some people like extra protection but to be honest, I stopped
using filters as protection on decent glass years ago. I did'nt like the
extra flare and degradation of image that it's possible to collect with
a filter. A good hood is much better protection IMO.
