When I upgraded from the low end 75-300 consumer zoom to the 100-400
IS L the difference in colors simply stunned me.  It was my first L,
and though I had read about the probelms of cheap lenses I thought my
pictures looked ok.  I had to see it to really understand it.

You can probably devise a test to compare the color performance of your lenses.
